I started playing Disc Golf in California in the early ’80’s at the age of 12. Our neighborhood had installed modified baskets to light polls throughout the streets in our community and I remember throwing discs for hours on end. My Mom and I moved to Lynchburg in ’87 and my interest shifted to other sports since disc golf had not arrived in Lynchburg until the mid ’90’s.
Once a course was installed in Lynchburg, I’d play morning and night. I loved the challenge and competition that the game brought and I began competing in local tournaments and statewide venues. The best part was the relationships developed, making lifelong friends and sharing the love of the game with others. But one course in Lynchburg was not enough. My passion soon turned to learning more about disc golf and working with city groups and friends from our tournaments to help expand the game throughout central Virginia.
I have been blessed to design and help build 2 courses thus far in central Virginia – Falling Creek in Bedford, VA and the home course on the campus of Liberty University. It’s been awesome to hear people get so excited about something that I’ve had a passion toward for such a long time. I am very thankful to have the opportunity to coach and help others see the affect that a simple game can have in others lives, both physically and spiritually.
Since 1999, I have been a full-time missionary with WHEEL POWER Christian Cyclists, working with my Mom and spreading the gospel message on bicycles (and recently motorcycles) across the United States. My wife Heather & I have been married since 1993 and are blessed with 2 sons who love to throws discs just as much as I do! I’m excited to see this level of play take place on the campus where I spent some time learning and growing in Christ. I look forward to passing on the passion and enthusiasm I have, both for the Lord and disc golf, to the Disc Golf Club Sport team at LU. I believe it’s all about encouraging and training this generation of golfers to use their gifts and talents to honor Christ in all that they do and strive to bring a national championship to LU through Disc Golf!
